Well, the first day of a liquid fast, always one of the toughest. For me, it takes a couple days before I have the fast totally on my brain. I am definitely hungry today and feel a little tired, but that is quite normal. The thing Ilike most about fasting is that it slows me down. The number of variables in my life decreases and I am able to see things more clearly. God does not always speak right away or even directly, but my experience tells me that if I am faithful, I will learn and grow. Guys, hang in there, you are doing important work!!!!

I had a challenging first day as well. In addition to my music and media fast, I'm also fasting from discouraging words - and it is proving to be difficult. On more than one occasion I have made a witty quip at someone else’s expense without even realizing what I am doing until it's already out of my mouth. In addition, I've shared my fasting goals with my wife of course and I have found that there are things I say that can be interpreted as "discouraging words" by my wife that I might not have fully realized. I have a feeling God wants to show me (and my wife) something about how we communicate and I am hopeful.

As verse I ran across today:
Romans 14:19 (from The Message) So let's agree to use all our energy in getting along with each other. Help others with encouraging words;

So far my fast is going well. I am fasting some meals and taking a couple of days of no meals. My goal during this fast is reading the Bible everyday and praying and hopefully through this hearing from the Lord. I am reading Romans, which is a great book and always reminds me of God's great mercy and love He has for us. I am praying that every man in our church will have a fresh revalation of the Father's Heart for them. Look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday.

We are right in the middle of the fast and now I feel better physcally, but it is a battle of the mind. When I see others eat or see food billboards, I feel a little temptation rise up inside of me. I think God honors our commitment to keep our promises. Too many times, I will stop doing something because, I "don't want to get too intense" or "A little of this won't hurt". Actually, breaking promises does hurt. Keeping promises, builds strength against future temptation. I think God honors us subduing our flesh and builds strength for future trials.

We are over halfway home!!!! Keep going and let God speak.
